hey bestie!!!
I am so grateful I get to share my work with all the besties on YouTube (also on IG, Tiktok, and Spotify, but mostly YouTube) but let’s be real: this is a career they don’t teach you about in school (at least when I was in school), and there were so many things that absolutely threw me for a loop when I first started experiencing them.
So whether you’re a beginner creator or just nosy (like I am), here’s some of the things that sent me into a coma as a YouTuber:
#1 - people judging my looks ALL DAY EVERY DAY
Let’s be real: people judge us for our looks even in real life, but when you create art in front of a camera, the focus on your looks is just so much more magnified. I did not expect for these pressures to be this enormous. Imagine getting multiple comments per day about your appearance (whether good or bad). It messes with you, and that’s something I wasn’t prepared for. I may still be in this coma to this day.
#2 - i can make the BEST VIDEO EVER but if my thumbnail sucks, it’s over
“Don’t judge a book by its cover” doesn’t apply to Youtube. Covers are almost EVERYTHING. Obviously you need a good video that matches the good cover (for the retention vibes) but it all starts with the cover—aka the thumbnail. I used to just slap on a cover as an afterthought until I figured this out. It’s definitely extra effort to research the best thumbnails and create multiple versions but honestly, it’s so worth it.
#3 - reading and learning A LOT
Because I make educational videos (also vibes videos), I go through so many articles and books per episode. And all this is amazing because it’s literally all I’ve ever wanted to do and at least now I have some direction with my reading. It sent me into a coma because I didn’t know just how much I’d be doing this. So call me a professional learner.
#4- The Notion app running every aspect of my life
If there is one app holding my entire work existence together, it’s Notion (not sponsored, I just love it so much). From idea generation to mood boarding to managing projects and contracts and contractors… Notion does it all for me. I love it so much I included the very same Notion template I use in The Business of Content Creation .
I’ve shared this template with my creator girlfriends and they loved it too!
#5 - never ever getting over the support the girlies give me 🥹
I’m still in this coma to this day, and even though I can’t physically respond to every single one, I so so appreciate these messages and they keep me going. It’s so comforting to know I’m not alone in these thoughts and vibes and interests. So from the bottom of my spoiled girlie heart, THANK YOU.
That’s all I have for you today.
Now get that bag, bestie!
Also, speaking of getting that bag, if you’re a creator girlie who wants to take your content creation hobby into a full-blown business, I created The Business of Content Creation which details exactly how I took Manifestelle into a 6-figure business.
